I have various business friends who’ve said I’ve inspired them, but do they know that they inspired me too? Inspired to inspire as you will!
It’s often a two way street. Being part of a networking community means the chance to share ideas and inspiration. Catch the fun and spread it!
This is one thing I love about being a piano teacher too. It’s nice that through testimonials I know that I’ve inspired the children that have been taught piano. Do they know they inspire me too?
The little ones that give me new ideas for teaching, or creative ideas for games that I hadn’t previously thought of.
The adults that have their own way of doing things, so I tailor to their way of thinking, and sometimes they ask if they can learn a particular “pop” song, or a song that they remembered from their childhood.
I’d even arranged a piece for a former student, as I do have a Masters’ in Compostion, I may as well use it from time to time!
Just before lockdown, an older teenager decided to stop his lessons as he was in his final year of A levels and needed to concentrate on his studies. He’d completed his Grade 5, so he wanted to play “his own” stuff for a bit. He had an old book from when his mother used to play the piano – it was from a few decades ago, and contained songs from bands such as the Beatles, and the song “My Way” which stuck in my head for a good few weeks!
One of the last pieces he came to me with, was a piece called “Blood Moon Waltz”. It sounded spectacular! It was so dramatic and atmospheric! Except his piece was hard to read, it was a faded photocopy. I offered to transcribe it and reprint it so he could read it properly, and asked if he minded me keeping a copy too.
Lockdown started around 15 months ago, and he left at February half term (so may have been well timed, as he ended naturally as opposed to being cut off!).
I still find myself occasionally coming back to this mysterious piece just to give it a play. Today was one of those days!
I’d been at a virtual “summit” for most of the day, hosted by Lisa Williams (Vision Board Queen). It had 12 inspiring speakers, and it was nice to take a day “out” from the norm. I had a spare half an hour left before the husband and kid came back for tea, so I jumped on my piano and had a quick play around of old pieces that my students had “left behind”
He may never know he inspired me, but that is the beauty of creativity too. Creativity inspires all around it, and it works in multiple ways.
If you’re not being inspired by something or someone, go out there and find it! It’ll be waiting for you when you’re ready to receive it/them! ❤️
