First up, it My first summer concert WAS a success, despite attendance being lower than the Christmas Concert.
It’s that time of year where people are on holiday, but also I didn’t anticipate all the young girls having a dance show at the same time, and the Antiques Roadshow being down the road in Beaumaris at the same time!
Anything perceived initially as failure, is ultimately a lesson that can be learned.
Here’s what I learned…
- Appreciate the people who turned up and give your best anyway (I do this normally, no matter who shows up)
- The smaller audience helped the nerves of the most nervous students.
- The parents appreciated the chance for their child to perform.
- I confidently delivered as host.
- The feedback was fab as always.
- I was asked to play the piano at next year’s Yoga Festival.
- Those who attended were glad to experience it, and I think they appreciated that there was more space to move around.
And post- concert, things to improve next time:
- Share pictures from previous concerts to show people what the setup is like.
- If I do a “summer concert” again, pick a different time of year – (maybe even a “spring” concert!)
- Plan ahead better with posters (Ran out of time/couldn’t print more)
- Collaborate? (The Christmas one is always for charity, so already in the pipeline for the next concert)

The voting decision was “Musical” so I played “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Mis!
Sadly Jasmine had Covid, so wasn’t able to attend, but rather than omit her piece from the programme, I played the “Spanish Guitar” myself.
Shel and Leah were appreciated as my helpers, and Leah had requested “Einaudi”. I’d chosen Due Tramonti as my starting piece as that’s my favourite, then I chose “Primavera” to round off the concert, somewhat randomly. It turned out that “Primavera” was the tune that got Leah into Einaudi in the first place!

As far as concerts that I host go, the next one is the Christmas one on Saturday 7th December. The Christmas Concert is usually for charity, so this year I’ll be supporting Tenovus Cancer Care. More details on that coming soon! (You can already reserve a ticket by popping over to this page!)
