This summer is shaping up to be a perfect balance of rest and fun! Of course when I set my word of the year in January, I chose “FUN” as my theme. What if my fun at the moment is protecting my peace?
I took part in 3 different festivals within a month at the end of June/Start of July, and my biggest “fear” was getting burnout at the end of it.

Summary of the first festival – Anglesey Yoga Festival. Did a talk about Happiness!

Second Festival – Womanifest – Did a Talk about Breaking the Chains of Anxiety

Third Festival- Tropic Fest – Just a guest, at a very loud festival!

I felt close to burnout when I returned home from the final festival (Tropic Fest) and staying in a bell tent, which meant getting woken up by the sunrise at 5am each morning. After that weekend I was exhausted, but life doesn’t stop just because we’re tired… the next day I had 3 of my piano students sitting their exams, and I like to attend with them for moral support.

Happy to say they all passed their exams! Then it was the busyness of the last week of the school year. I was grateful for “Bwyd a Hwyl” for the first two and a half weeks of the summer holidays, as it meant even though no lie ins, I could have all my work in the mornings and not need additional childcare, which worked quite neatly, and meant that my priority could be seen through too.

I usually have a “project” for the summer. This summer I have two.
1) To go to as many Pilates classes as I physically can. Nerys, my teacher, has an unlimited summer pass, where you pay a flat fee, and can attend as many classes as you like. The first week I did 4 classes, and this second week I’m on track to do another 4 classes! My body needs Pilates! That’s true self care to me. That’s my number one priority this summer.

2) To write 5 poems by the end of August. I’m part of a collaboration called “Patchwork of Poems” led by Claire Walsh. I thought I’d struggle to find 5 topics, but every time she hosts a workshop, I knock out one or two poems, so it looks like by the end of this month, I’ll have to narrow down my choices to 5!

And this week, I’m grateful because no sooner had “Bwyd a Hwyl” concluded, Dewi was taken on holiday by his auntie and grandparents, so I have some peace and quiet to do whatever I want, with no time limits on my days until Saturday (when he returns) so I’ve spent today networking and hosting the fortnightly Nintendo Players UK committee meeting.

The rest of the days, I’ve got coffee with a friend, more networking, a couple of piano lessons, a poetry workshop, a lunch date with the husband, and space for 3 separate Pilates classes too. That’s what I call the perfect balance of life. Plenty of fun to be had, memories to be made, and time to slow down a little bit so I can reset ready for the new term in September.
