The end of term is always a time to celebrate my students’ achievements!
We’ve just concluded another season of piano exams, through which I put another pair.
One was in Colwyn Bay at the start of July, and the other was last week in Caernarfon.
For both it was their first time in the specific venue, but Colwyn Bay was his first experience of an exam, and for the Caernarfon lass, it was her second exam but first time in that venue.
Both were a bit nervous and were borderline in their mock exams, but I’m here to inspire an encourage so that’s exactly what I did.
The Colwyn Bay lad actually entered the exam itself seemingly confident, only to emerge from the exam and sheepishly claim he’d messed up his “F Major and a bit of the third piece”. Not to worry I replied. The best you can do on the day is good enough for me! The beauty of electronic grading means that the results come through in just a few days, unlike the often six weeks we had to endure in my childhood!
The Caernarfon lass had been busy in her school production until the week before her exam, but she was able to focus in that last week, and it paid off, because she came away with a merit. After asking how she thought it went and her reply just being an “ok, I think…”, we were a little bit apprehensive about the impending result. But we needn’t have worried.
A pass and a merit. Both students have been with me since the beginning of their musical journeys and I love seeing them grow <3
