Most often in the holidays, I would have a small handful of piano students to teach, but since everything is properly back to how it was pre pandemic on the side of people travelling, nearly all my students’ families were doing just that!
The juggle of the school holidays being a mum of a Neuro-divergent 7 year old was feeling real, until the summer holidays actually hit..
We took a family holiday to York the first week of the holidays, we didn’t plan anything until the days happened (except meeting up with my parents, and a couple of my mum’s siblings for lunch!) but most of those 7 days was the kid asking where the next park was… my hopes of mooching around the shops were dashed by the kid with the endless energy! The weather was hot and sunny all week, so we did manage to find some kind of park or adventure playground for every single day in a different destination around Yorkshire!
The week and a bit after the holiday, the kid went to “Bwyd a Hwyl” (Food and fun) so I had the morning to catch up with the other sides of my business (podcast/book/Tropic) and a couple of the lunchtimes I was able to join in with him and the other kids too. (The sun was out again for most of that!)
When people are reflecting on this year’s summer, loads are saying it’s been a washout, but apart from one or two days, I’ve experienced lovely sunny weather when I’ve been out and about.
The bank holiday weekend was a bit wet, but as went away for a couple of nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary, the actual day of our anniversary was sunny once again.
We also made it to Llyn Padarn (Llanberis) for an afternoon to go paddleboarding with his Auntie and a friend.
There were a couple of catchups in the local park with friends, and completed 3.5 parkruns too. the 0.5 was that the kid started on the junior parkrun for the first time this month. I completed my 43rd parkrun today, so am definitely on track for hitting 50 before the end of 2024.
On the odd day when I was being mum, we enjoyed a bit of gardening (I’m not a gardener, but the bushes were so overgrown I had to do something when the gardener couldn’t get there!)
When I don’t have teaching to do, I can focus on other elements of my business, so this month I took on a proofreading project. This is a service I offer but don’t actively promote, as I only take on work by request, when I’m not as busy with everything else. I do love editing and proofreading though, and have done two major projects this year so far. (If you’d like help with proofreading/spelling/grammar with any type of prose, just get in touch and ask for my help!) Looking forward to seeing the finished product when it launches officially in October!
I also got higher Tropic sales this month as I was chasing the Christmas Incentive, so I could unlock a 50% discount when the Christmas products launch in mid September, so very much appreciate everyone who has supported me that way this month too!
The holidays are whatever you want them to be. Although I didn’t set any serious goals for this summer apart from “make memories”, I can reflect and know that as a family, this was an awesome summer and one to be remembered. It certainly wasn’t a washout, but we blinked and almost missed it! Year 3 here we come!
