You might wonder how I’ve been running my business as a piano tutor for over 7 years, without having played the piano in a professional context. I had no portfolio, no residencies, no opportunities to travel, and nothing to actually prove that I could play the piano at all! This is where a New Chapter begins!
I’m still very grateful that at the beginning of my journey, parents put their trust in me to teach their child the piano, and even though the children come and go, the parents would recommend me locally, so I’ve never been without students since starting formally in early 2016.
Of course, those who’ve followed my story know that my severe anxiety disorder preventing me from being able to play the piano in public, and it was my worst nightmare to have an audience “staring” at me… mainly because even though I achieved my grade 8 when I was 17, going through as a music student at university, put it deep in the roots of my mind that I would never be good enough to be a “real” musician.
It turns out that I didn’t need the validation from an educational institution to say whether I was “good enough” or not (I have got a Masters in Composition and a degree in Music however) … I just needed to find my own path, gain my own confidence, and get out there as my true self. Lose the fear of judgement, realise that it’s ok NOT to be perfect; and know that actually I’m not bad at all, in fact many love me and my piano music! 🎹
How did I discover that? I had to press “Go” eventually. I was fed up of being completely invisible, and I started practising by going “live” in my Facebook group after encouragement from my Tropic customers and friends. I still go live once or twice a month in there now, setting myself monthly challenges to see what I can achieve with my sight reading/quick learning skills. 💜 I built up a portfolio both in my group, then later on Youtube. Find your tribe(s). Your cheerleaders will build you up, and as long as you get started in the first place, you can build up in small steps, until one day, you realise you’re ready to go out there and chase your dreams for real!
I may not be a world travelling famous concert pianist, but that’s not who I want to be either. I plan to be known locally, as the adaptable alternative pianist and piano tutor, who inspires the children and adults in this little pocket of North Wales.
My first paid engagement is for the King’s Coronation Day at Chateau Rhianfa, and I can’t wait!

A new chapter for this pianist, and I am ready! 🤩
